The Democratic Men of Forsyth will convene for their quarterly breakfast on October 21, 9 am, at Party HQ, 1128 Burke St. As is our custom, all members and their guests are welcome. After our sensible buffet and our usual rigamarole, we will hear a timely message from the Hon. Marcia Morey, who served as a judge in Durham for 18 years before beginning her service in the General Assembly.
Her experience gives Rep Morey a sharp perspective on Raleigh’s current assault on the NC Judiciary. Many believe that the out-of-control , veto-proof General Assembly, stung by its string of losses in court, has determined to politicize NC’s judiciary. For example, next year’s judicial candidates will be identified by party. Further, at our last meeting, Chief Judge Menefee acquainted us with HB 717, aimed at NC cities, which will double-bunk Democratic judges and will place other incumbents in newly gerrymandered judicial districts impossible for any Democrat to win. Many of you read Scott Sexton’s Oct 5th assessment of 717’s effect on Forsyth, a link to which is included below.
It is essential that NC’s major cities organize against this takeover. And, because they know judges should be fair and impartial, most Forsyth judges—serving and retired-- oppose 717. So bring a friend on the 14th. Nothing less than Justice is at stake.
